Typical Activities

With Early Achievers Home Daycare's play-based learning approach, there will be weekly themes based on the time of year and what the children's interests are at that time. Through daily activities, such as creative arts, morning/afternoon circle, sensory and indoor/outdoor play, the children will learn social, emotional, cognitive and language skills, that can be applied to their everyday living.

Language: Repetitive language enhances children's social development and can be encouraged through nursery rhymes, finger play, stimulus pictures or objects that support verbalization, reading, flannel boards and introducing phonetic sounds. Adult and peer interaction will be prompted on a daily basis in many different ways. Jolly Phonics will be of focus and will be a tool used throughout the entire day. The days of the week and numbers will also be taught in French, to aid your child in learning a second language; this will be an introduction to the French language.

Morning/ Afternoon Circle: During circle time, the children have the opportunity to engage in group activities in an interactive setting. Circle Time is an important tool to use, especially in the morning, to ensure the children feel welcome, having a comfortable and confident start to their day. This is also where the children will have the opportunity to work on the seven days of the week and twelve months of the year. We will talk about, and establish, the weather conditions outside through a Weather Watcher song. Children will become comfortable using the terms sunny, windy, cloudy, rainy, snowy, cool, warm and hot. Counting will be of focus during Circle Time as well, strengthening numerical knowledge, in and out of sequence. The Jolly Phonics will be used and will be introduced in a group setting during Circle Time so the sounds of letters can be reinforced throughout the day. Jolly Phonics is an amazing program that encourages your child to recognize phonetic sounds, prepare them to sound-build and, in turn, to read!

Group Play: Group play is important in early development because it promotes and strengthens confidence. Co-operative play will be encouraged through singing together, music and movement, dramatic play, reading, listening to peers and circle time (morning and afternoon). Practical life skills and abilities can be strengthened during this time.

Free Play: Children will have the choice of a variety of materials to manipulate in their own way; this will support children's natural inquiries and allow room for exploration which enhances their learning. Materials that will be readily available will be blocks, trains, cars, kitchen toys, dolls, dress up clothes, household toys, art materials and much more. The children may watch limited educational television at times. All of these aspects to play will enhance children's fine motor and gross motor control, which supports their development to the fullest.

Outdoor Play: Gross motor development is vital during their early years. The best way for children to strengthen their gross motor skills and abilities is in the outdoors. During outdoor play children use important skills, such as creativity, sensory and cognitive abilities. These skills aid in brain development and allow your child to grow physically mentally and emotionally. 1-2 hours a day will be dedicated to outdoor play (weather permitting) and will be, at times, structured, or unstructured for children to use their imaginations. Gross motor activities include running, riding toys, ball playing, gardening toys, trucks, doll strollers and much more.

Please remember to dress your child appropriately in relation to the weather; when in doubt, dress in layers or bring extra clothes. An outdoor playground check is completed on a daily basis to ensure safety of the children.

Special Days: Include Birthdays, Holiday Parties, Spirit Days, Kids Yoga Days, etc.
